⚙️ Clean All 4 Seasons! Seasonal Washing Machine Care Know-How for Preventing Summer Mold/Odor and Winter Freezing

The washing machine cleans our clothes, but its internal environment changes rapidly with the seasons, requiring regular seasonal care. Summer brings an increased risk of mold and odor due to the humid environment, while winter brings the risk of freezing due to low temperatures. We share seasonal washing machine care and troubleshooting know-how.

🔑 Core of Seasonal Washing Machine Care: Moisture Control and Freezing Prevention

The key is to control mold in summer with drying and cleaning, and prevent freezing in winter with water removal and insulation.

💡 Seasonal Washing Machine Care Know-How

1. ☀️ Summer Washer Care (Mold, Odor Prevention):

  • Open Door After Washing: Open the washer door (including the rubber gasket for drum washers) immediately after washing to sufficiently dry the interior and prevent moisture from getting trapped. (The main culprit of mold proliferation.)
  • Clean Detergent/Softener Dispenser: Mold easily grows on detergent/softener residue in humid summer weather. Regularly detach and clean the dispenser with a brush and dry it.
  • Shorten Tub Cleaning Cycle: Since mold proliferates quickly in summer, run the Tub Clean cycle using washer tub cleaner more frequently than usual (every 3 weeks to 1 month).

2. ❄️ Winter Washer Care (Freezing Prevention):

  • Remove Residual Water: If sub-zero temperatures are expected, all residual water in the inlet hose and drain hose inside the washer must be removed to prevent freezing.
    • Inlet Hose: Turn off the faucet, detach the hose, and drain the water.
    • Drain Hose: Point the hose downward to completely drain the water inside.
  • Insulate Faucet: Wrap the faucet and inlet hose connected to the washer with old clothes or insulation material to prevent freezing.
  • Close Drum Door After Use: Since drying is relatively fast in winter, closing the door after use to maintain a constant internal temperature can help prevent freezing. (Only applies if no moisture remains.)

Caring for your washing machine according to seasonal changes extends the life of the appliance and ensures your clothes are always clean.
