๐Ÿฉน No More Stickiness! Gum/Adhesive Stain Removal: Emergency Action to Cleanly Remove Sticky Gum and Adhesive Residue

When gum or super glue adheres to clothes, the stickiness and penetration into the fiber structure make removal very tricky. Gum, in particular, melts easily when heated and spreads, making it difficult to remove with general methods. We share the effective emergency action to perfectly remove sticky gum and adhesive residue without damaging the fabric.

๐Ÿ”‘ Core of Gum/Adhesive Stain Removal: Solidify the Substance (Cooling) or Decompose the Substance (Oil/Organic Solvent)

Gum must be cooled and peeled off, and adhesive must be chemically decomposed using an organic solvent (acetone, ethanol, etc.).

๐Ÿ’ก 3-Step Formula for Gum/Adhesive Stain Removal

1. ๐ŸงŠ Gum Removal (Solidification by Cooling):

  • Cooling Treatment: Place the garment with the gum in a plastic bag with the gum facing up, and put it in the freezer for 1-2 hours to make the gum hard and solidified.
  • Peeling Off: Once the gum is completely frozen and hard, use a knife blade or scraper to carefully peel it off without damaging the fibers.
  • Tip: Residue Treatment: If sticky residue remains after peeling off the gum, melt it with cooking oil or apply rubbing alcohol/nail polish remover (organic solvent component) to decompose the residue.

2. ๐Ÿงด Adhesive Removal (Utilize Organic Solvent):

  • Identify Adhesive Type: Common super glues (cyanoacrylate-based) dissolve well in acetone.
  • Utilize Acetone: Dampen a clean cloth or cotton swab with acetone (nail polish remover) and gently dab the adhesive area to dissolve it. (Certain fibers like acetate and rayon are damaged by acetone, so always test on the inside of the garment before use.)
  • Wood Glue/Regular Glue: Glues that dissolve in water should be soaked in lukewarm water and then washed with a neutral detergent.

3. ๐Ÿšฟ Final Wash and Residual Oil Removal:

  • Remove Oil Components: If oil components such as cooking oil or acetone remain after gum or adhesive removal, use dish soap to rub the area as if pre-washing to remove residual oil/grease.
  • Final Wash: Proceed with a regular wash to completely finish cleaning.

Never use hot water when removing gum or adhesive stains. (It causes them to penetrate deeper.)
