๐Ÿงบ The First Step to Increased Washing Efficiency! Laundry Basket/Sorting Know-How: Criteria and Methods for Sorting by Soil Level, Color, and Fabric Before Washing

Before starting laundry, properly sorting the laundry is the most basic step that prevents fabric damage, prevents color transfer, and increases washing efficiency. Washing all laundry at once shortens the life of the clothes and makes it difficult to expect a clean washing result. We share the know-how for sorting laundry like a professional.

๐Ÿ”‘ Core of Laundry Sorting: 3 Criteria - Color, Fabric, Soil Level

The key is to sort the laundry based on three criteria: light/dark colors (Color), strong friction/delicate fabrics (Fabric), and heavy soil/light soil (Soil Level), and wash them accordingly.

๐Ÿ’ก 3 Steps to Master Laundry Sorting

1. ๐ŸŽจ Sorting by Color (Prevent Color Transfer):

  • White/Light-Colored Clothing: White clothes need to be washed the cleanest, so separate them from dark-colored clothing and wash them alone. (Prevents color transfer and dulling of colors.)
  • Dark/Black Clothing: Since they are prone to bleeding, wash them with cold water and always separate them from light-colored clothes.
  • Colored Clothing (Medium Tones): Test for color bleeding before washing, and separate them into a medium group between light and dark colors for washing.

2. ๐Ÿงถ Sorting by Fabric (Prevent Damage):

  • Rough Fabrics vs. Delicate Fabrics: Fabrics that are strong against friction and prone to pilling, such as jeans and towels, should be separated from delicate fabrics that are weak against friction, such as knits, blouses, and underwear. (Delicate fabrics must use a laundry net.)
  • Lint-Generating/Lint-Absorbing Fabrics: Towels and brushed/fleece clothing produce a lot of lint, so separate them from black clothing or synthetic fibers which absorb lint well.

3. ๐Ÿฆ  Sorting by Soil Level (Hygiene Management):

  • Heavy Soil: Clothes with heavy stains or soil such as dirt, grease, or blood stains should be pre-washed and washed separately to prevent contamination from transferring to other clothes.
  • General Soil: Clothes with everyday sweat or light soil can be washed normally.
  • Special Soil: Underwear, baby clothes, and dishcloths which require high hygiene should be separated from other laundry and undergo a sterilization wash, such as boiling.

Using a laundry basket with 3-4 compartments can help establish the habit of sorting laundry.
