Lipstick/Foundation Stain Removal: Know-How to Remove Oily Makeup Stains Without Damaging the Fabric
๐ Fashion Terrorist! Lipstick/Foundation Stain Removal: Know-How to Remove Oily Makeup Stains Without Damaging the Fabric
Makeup products like lipstick or foundation contain a lot of oil (grease) components, so when they get on clothes, they are difficult to remove with general water washing alone and are likely to spread. It is particularly easy to panic when they stain white or light-colored clothes. We share the emergency action know-how to effectively remove oily makeup stains without damaging the fabric.
๐ Core of Makeup Stain Removal: Decompose Oil, Do Not Rub, Remove Residual Pigment
The key is to first decompose the oil components of the makeup stain, gently dab the stain instead of rubbing to absorb it, and finally remove the residual pigment.
๐ก 3-Step Formula for Lipstick/Foundation Stain Removal
1. ๐งช Decompose Oil Components (Dish Soap or Cleansing Oil):
- Use Dish Soap: Place a dry cloth (or tissue) under the stained area and apply a small amount of dish soap onto the stain. (Dish soap is effective for decomposing grease/oil.)
- Utilize Cleansing Oil (Optional): You can also use cleansing oil instead of dish soap. (The principle is to remove makeup with makeup remover.)
- Dab to Absorb: After applying the detergent, gently dab from the outside to the inside of the stain with a toothbrush or clean cloth to absorb the stain onto the dry cloth underneath. (Rubbing will spread the stain and penetrate deeper into the fibers.)
2. ๐ง Rinse and Pigment Decomposition:
- Lukewarm Water: Once the oil has been largely removed, rinse the stained area with lukewarm water.
- Utilize Alcohol (Optional): If the pigment staining is severe, apply rubbing alcohol (ethanol) on a cotton swab and gently dab to decompose the residual pigment. (Always test on colored clothes before use.)
3. ๐งผ Final Wash:
- General Wash: If the oil and pigment have been sufficiently removed by pre-washing, proceed with the general washing cycle suitable for the fabric.
- Drying Caution: Absolutely do not apply heat with a dryer or iron until you have confirmed that the stain has been completely removed. (Heat sets the stain into the fibers.)
The most important thing for lipstick and foundation stains is to take immediate emergency action with dish soap or cleansing oil right when they occur.
