๐Ÿ’Ž Elegant Luster and Softness, Silk: Know-How for Maintaining Luster, Proper Washing Method, and Wrinkle Removal for Silk

Silk is made of natural protein fibers, characterized by its soft texture and beautiful luster, but it is a delicate, high-end material that is very vulnerable to water, heat, and friction, making care difficult. Incorrect washing can cause it to lose luster or damage the fibers, shortening its lifespan. We share the care know-how to maintain the luster and elegance of silk fabric for a long time.

๐Ÿ”‘ Core of Silk Care: Neutral Detergent, Low-Temperature/Hand Wash, Shade Drying Without Wringing

Since silk fibers are vulnerable to weak alkalinity, the key is to use a neutral detergent (wool shampoo), hand wash as gently as possible with cold or lukewarm water, and shade dry without wringing to maintain luster and shape.

๐Ÿ’ก 3 Steps for Silk Fabric Care and Washing

1. ๐Ÿงผ Silk Washing Know-How (Hand Washing Recommended):

  • Neutral Detergent and Cold Water: Always use silk-specific or neutral detergent (wool shampoo), dissolved in cold water (below 30ยฐC) or lukewarm water for washing.
  • Gently Swish to Wash: Absolutely avoid rubbing or scrubbing the fabric during washing. Wash by gently swishing or squeezing in the water, and after washing, rinse several times in plenty of water to ensure no detergent residue remains.
  • Tip: Utilize Vinegar: Adding 1-2 drops of vinegar during the final rinse helps protect the weakened silk fibers and restores luster.

2. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ Silk Drying and Water Removal:

  • No Wringing: When removing water after washing, do not wring it out by hand, but instead place it between dry towels and gently pat to absorb the water.
  • Dry in the Shade: Sunlight damages the color and luster of silk. Always hang to dry on a hanger in a well-ventilated shade, and it is also good to pad the hanger with a towel to prevent stretching due to the weight of the garment.

3. ๐Ÿ‘• Silk Ironing and Storage:

  • Low-Temperature Ironing: Silk is vulnerable to heat, so always iron on the 'silk' or 'low temperature' setting. To effectively remove wrinkles, iron when the fabric is slightly damp, with a thin cloth (pressing cloth) placed over it.
  • Long-Term Storage: For long-term storage, store it in a dry place with moth repellents to prevent moth damage.

'Dry cleaning' is the safest method for silk, but when washing at home, delicate hand washing is essential.
