Washing Machine Drum Cleaning and Care Know-How: Methods for Removing Mold and Limescale from Top Loader/Front Loader Drums
๐ฆ Hygiene in the Unseen Place! Washing Machine Drum Cleaning and Care Know-How: Methods for Removing Mold and Limescale from Top Loader/Front Loader Drums
The inside of the washing machine (drum) we use every day becomes an ideal environment for mold and bacteria growth, mixing detergent residue, limescale, and lint from clothes. If the drum is contaminated, the clothes may smell unpleasant or have black residue on them. We share the know-how for cleaning and caring for the washing machine drum according to the type of washing machine (Top Loader/Front Loader).
๐ Core of Drum Cleaning: Utilize Dedicated Detergent, Soaking, Perfect Drying
The key is to use a dedicated drum cleaner (oxygen-based bleach/sodium percarbonate), go through a process of sufficient soaking by filling the water, and perfectly dry the drum after cleaning to prevent moisture and mold growth.
๐ก 3 Steps for Cleaning the Washing Machine Drum by Type
1. ๐งช Detergent Input and Soaking:
- Detergent: Directly pour about 1-2 paper cups of dedicated drum cleaner or sodium percarbonate (oxygen-based bleach) into the drum. (Do not put it in the detergent dispenser.)
- Filling Water (Top Loader): Fill the washer with warm water (40ยฐC~50ยฐC) up to the highest level, run the 'Tub Clean' or 'Standard Cycle' for 5-10 minutes to dissolve the detergent, and then soak sufficiently for 2-4 hours.
- Filling Water (Front Loader): Water level adjustment is difficult for Front Loaders. Select the 'Tub Clean' cycle, or run for 5-10 minutes after adding detergent and press Pause to secure soaking time.
2. ๐ Washing and Residue Removal:
- Proceed with Washing: After soaking is complete, run the Tub Clean cycle or Standard Cycle until the end.
- Remove Residual Foreign Matter: After washing is complete, as the water drains, black foreign matter such as mold and limescale may stick to the drum wall. Wipe the inside thoroughly with a dry towel to remove residue.
3. ๐ฌ๏ธ Cleaning and Drying Washer Components (Mold Prevention):
- Rubber Gasket (Front Loader): Front Loaders are prone to limescale and mold in the door's rubber gasket area. Wipe this area with a detergent-soaked brush and completely remove moisture with a dry towel.
- Clean Detergent Dispenser: The detergent dispenser is a spot where detergent residue tends to clump, making it prone to mold. Detach and clean it thoroughly.
- Leave the Door Open: Always leave the washing machine door open after washing to fully dry the internal moisture and prevent mold growth.
Drum cleaning is recommended once a month. Clean laundry starts with a clean drum.
