โ˜• Common Everyday Mistake! Coffee/Tea Stain Removal: Emergency Know-How to Neatly Remove Coffee/Black Tea Stains Caused by Tannin

Beverage stains like coffee, black tea, or green tea contain Tannin components that easily bind with fabric dyes, making the stains very difficult to remove once they set over time. It is particularly easy to panic when they stain white clothes. We share the emergency action know-how to effectively decompose and neatly remove tannin-based stains.

๐Ÿ”‘ Core of Coffee/Tea Stain Removal: Immediate Action, Neutral Detergent, Utilize Vinegar or Sodium Percarbonate

The key is to take immediate action with cold water when the stain occurs, apply neutral detergent to the stain, and then use acid (vinegar) or oxygen-based bleach (sodium percarbonate) to decompose and remove the tannin component.

๐Ÿ’ก 3-Step Formula for Coffee/Tea Stain Removal

1. ๐Ÿ’ง Immediate Emergency Action with Cold Water:

  • Cold Water: Never rinse the stain with hot water. Use cold water to flush the stained area from the inside out. (Hot water sets the stain into the fibers.)
  • Dab Gently: Gently dab with a dry cloth or tissue to absorb moisture and the stain. (Rubbing will spread the stain.)

2. ๐Ÿงช Pre-Wash Utilizing Detergent or Vinegar:

  • Neutral Detergent: Apply a small amount of dish soap or neutral detergent to the stained area, and gently rub with a toothbrush or finger.
  • Utilize Vinegar (Colored Clothes): For colored clothes, mix water and vinegar in a 1:2 ratio, apply it to the stained area, leave for about 10 minutes, and then rinse with water. (The acidity of vinegar decomposes the tannin.)

3. โ™จ๏ธ Final Removal Using Sodium Percarbonate (White Clothes):

  • White Clothes/Cotton Material: For white clothes or cotton material, use sodium percarbonate bleaching, which is the strongest and safest removal method.
  • Bleaching: Dissolve sodium percarbonate in warm water (about 50ยฐC), and soak the stained clothes for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Final Wash: After confirming the stain has been completely removed, rinse with clean water and proceed with general washing.

โœ… Caution: Absolutely do not apply heat with a dryer or iron while the stain is not removed. Heat permanently sets the stain.

Coffee stains should be removed within 24 hours of the spill to be cleaned successfully.
