๐Ÿงบ A Space Where Laundry is Enjoyable: Know-How for a Comfortable and Efficient Laundry Room/Balcony Interior

The laundry room or balcony is more than just a washing area; it is a vital lifestyle space for managing and storing the family's clothes. However, these narrow spaces are often used inefficiently, cluttered with washers and miscellaneous items. We share interior design and storage know-how to design a comfortable and efficient narrow laundry space.

๐Ÿ”‘ Core of Laundry Room Design: Utilizing Vertical Space and Minimizing Traffic

The laundry room should be designed so that the three-step flow of Wash, Dry, and Store is efficiently connected.

๐Ÿ’ก Tips for Efficient Laundry Room/Balcony Design

1. Maximizing Vertical Space: Stacking Washer-Dryer (Essential)

  • The key to saving space is vertically stacking the front-load washer and dryer. This frees up floor space, which can be used for sorting laundry or other tasks.
  • Tip: When stacking, use a stable dedicated kit or shelf, and it is generally recommended to place the dryer on top for ease of use.

2. Securing Laundry Sorting/Storage:

  • Laundry Baskets: It is efficient to use a 3-compartment sorting basket to pre-sort laundry into general clothes, colored clothes, and clothes to be boiled, etc.
  • Shelves/Cabinets: Install open shelves or wall-mounted cabinets to organize laundry supplies (detergent, softener, cleaning supplies) by height, ensuring floor space is maximized. (Store dangerous detergents high up, out of children's reach.)

3. Multi-purpose Use of Laundry Space:

  • Folding Counter/Shelf: Installing a folding shelf above the washer can be used as a temporary workspace for sorting laundry, pre-washing, or folding clothes.
  • Mini Sink/Faucet: Installing a small sink or faucet for pre-washing or handwashing reduces the need to commute to the bathroom and minimizes the laundry workflow.

๐ŸŒฟ Elements for Creating a Comfortable Environment

  • Lighting: Bright, clear lighting helps when sorting laundry or checking for stains. LED lighting or high color temperature lighting is recommended.
  • Ventilation and Dehumidification: Since humidity tends to build up after washing, a powerful ventilation fan should be installed or a dehumidifier should be operated periodically to prevent mold and musty odors.
  • Color: Unifying the walls and furniture with white or light gray tones makes the space look larger and feel clean.
